my blown up pile.

Post by Nimitz87 on October 11th 2009, 3:13 am

well some of you know me, and know my car recently went down here is the skinny on what happened.

cruising at 2,000 or so RPM on alligator alley heading home from Tampa it let go.

So what happened is basically I got fucked, when the dart's were installed a while back at a shitty shop in west palm (PRIME TUNE NEVER GO) dart springs were not installed, and no manley valves, long story short the guy ripped me off and used factory GM stuff here are some pictures.

well here is what happened...broke a valve spring, dropped the valve, valve meet piston....not even sure what the bottom end looks like yet...but the whole thing is scrapped, piston sleeve is cracked, as well as a broken rod the entire motor is scrapped.

that round thing...is the valve affraid

cam I pulled out yesterday.

next 3 pictures are of the cylinder head that was damaged...

the next 2 pictures are what is left of the valve spring and valve:eek:

and the new....

last 2 pictures are of the driver side of the stock 6.0 short block, doesn't look to bad w/ 52k on it...

it'll be a stock bottom end 6.0 truck motor, and a 4l80E auto.

Chad

So you bought the heads bare, and this guy put the stock valves, springs, retainers and locks on them? This is terrible! Especially if you were running an aftermarket cam (which by these picture, I'm guessing you were) Sorry to hear this man, but it looks like the heads could be fixable, so hopefully it's not a total loss. Good Luck with your 6.0!

wow, sorry to hear about that. How did you like those harland sharp rockers? I have a brand new set but heard so many people having clearance issues with them. I ended up doing the stock harland sharp rebuild to my stockers, but still have my other harland sharps like yours. What do you think, throw them in or stay with the harland sharp upgraded stockers?

well supposedly they were assembled darts but that wasn't the case HE bought them bare and CHARGED me for assembled dart heads.

I didn't deal with the shop at all...just forgetting this every happened entirely.

and I'm not reusing these heads...going with PRC LS3 CNC'd heads, which should be here today!

yeah cam was a 232/234 .595/.598 on a 112.

the HS rockers were fine, not sure on clearance on stock casting heads but they fit my darts just fine.

the HS mod is great on the stock rockers...I wouldn't change it if its working fine...K.I.S.S

I'll be sending my stock L92 rockers to HS for their mod and plan to spin the motor to 7k

From the pics it's hard to tell if those are stock but they could be. I would bet that its the base dart valvetrain. The stuff that Dart and other cyl head manufacturers put on their heads as the "base" units have been known to be junk. Those springs usually accept no more than .550 lift. Given your cam specs, I would say the spring was going into coil bind a little bit over that lift and collapsing the lifter (stock ls1 lifters can take alot of preload). I suspect that could be the case as a cam with that much lift would have put a stock spring into coil bind way before peak lift. Which may be the reason you didn't have problems earlier.

Either way, the shop you had do this work would be responsible if either was the case as they should have known to check for that.

Moving on, it looks like you have a great setup coming. Can't beat the L92's you will like those! Good luck with the new build!

the PSI1511 springs are great springs...

but these are not them, nor are they GM ls6 springs or anything else that I can tell...whatever they were they were junk...like I said trying to forget about this entirely.
